Lars Bang Larsen on Rachel Harrison | Lecture
19 Jan, 18:00 — 19:30
We invite you to join us for a lecture by art historian Lars Bang Larsen on Rachel Harrison.
Rachel Harrison’s attention to the setting and historical conditions of display extends to the format of her current Astrup Fearnley Museet exhibition, Sitting in a Room. Each gallery is conceived by the artist as a distinct locale—Sculpture Court, Town Square, Gym, Living Room, and Cabinet—that places the viewer in contexts at once intimate and public. The artworks are staged as active conversational partners that create dialogue both among each other and with the audience. What types of perception, meaning production, and community can arise through these constellations?
Lars Bang Larsen’s lecture is based on his essay “When Nature Has Had Its Day, Justice Might Prevail”, which focuses on how Harrison twists and turns reality and its representations.
The essay will appear in the comprehensive catalog for Rachel Harrison’s exhibition, which will be published in January 2023, containing installation photos from Sitting in a Room as well as detailed visual documentation of Harrison’s work across a wide range of artistic expressions. Other contributors are Negar Azimi, Anne Dressen, and Solveig Øvstebø.
This lecture will be held in English.
Free and open to everyone.
