Writing Art | The Murder of Andreas Baader

Skriveverksted Mordet på Andreas Baader

Explore The Murder of Andreas Baader through poetic ekphrasis with author Anders Brenno.

Writing Art is an event series in which we explore works from the Astrup Fearnley Collection through ekphrasis, together with invited authors. Through participatory writing, visitors are invited to experience the artworks through their own poetic interpretations. Anders Brenno will lead an ekphrastic writing workshop inspired by Odd Nerdrum’s The Murder of Andreas Baader (1977–1978).

Odd Nerdrum (b. 1944) is a Norwegian painter known for his figurative paintings in an Old Master style. The Murder of Andreas Baader was painted during a period when Nerdrum’s work was marked by criticism of systems and society. The painting depicts the death of Andreas Baader, founder of the Red Army Faction (RAF), in a German prison as a murder, in a style strongly influenced by Caravaggio.

Anders Brenno (b. 1988) is a writer, visual artist, and antiquarian bookseller. He studied at Einar Granum School of Art and the Oslo National Academy of the Arts. In 2013, he participated in the Autumn Exhibition with the video Vampire Yeah, and in 2021 with the painting Triumph of Death (Death in Valdres). He made his literary debut in 2015 with the poetry collection Vampire Yeah. His first novel, Minner fra Muggedalen, will be published in November 2026. He currently works as an antiquarian bookseller at Norlis Antikvariat.
