Lecture with Koyo Kouoh
18 Jun, 18:00 — 19:00Astrup Fearnley Museet invites you to a talk by Koyo Kouoh
Free and open for all. Limited capacity, sign up.
Since 2019, Kouoh has been the Executive Director of Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) in Cape Town, where she has refocused the museum’s mission and programming. She is also the artistic director of Raw Material Company in Dakar, which she founded in 2008. The latter bridges cultural and social fields with meaningful artistic programming and a focus on critical education. In her talk at Astrup Fearnley Museet she will be reflecting on the vision and model of both institutions while drawing upon her extensive curatorial experience, which has centred the practices of African and international artists. Indeed, her institutional and curatorial practice can be described as highly artist centric.
This talk comes out of an ongoing enquiry at Astrup Fearnley Museet about what makes a relevant museum. We’re continuing this enquiry by inviting Kouoh to share her experience as a museum leader developing institutional frameworks in Dakar and Cape Town, that are deeply responsive to, and catalytic for, each context that they are engaged with.
The talk will be English.
