Gardar Eide Einarsson in conversation with Ifrah Osman
Artist Gardar Eide Einarsson will be in conversation with Ifra Osman, Curatorial Assistant, reflecting on his work Liberty (2006), and on selected works from the Astrup Fearnley Collection.
Artist on the Collection offers a close encounter with works from the Astrup Fearnley Collection. The program invites artists featured in our current display to discuss their own work and works by their peers which resonate with their practice. It offers a personal and insightful entry into the collection.
With a practice spanning installations, sculptures, paintings, photography, video, graphic works, and textiles, Gardar Eide Einarsson has explored questions related to power, oppression, and propaganda since the late 1990s. The work Liberty, currently on display at Astrup Fearnley Museet, consists of a black textile appliquéd with a white crescent moon and the word “liberty” in white block letters. Flag-sized, the work measures 150 × 250 cm. In his investigations into how visible and invisible systems shape society and our lives, Einarsson draws attention to the ways in which power and control manifest themselves through images, symbols, and language.
