This richly illustrated publication Sitting in a Room<\/em> highlights the recent work of the American artist Rachel Harrison, who takes a porous, hybrid approach to objects both made and found. Spanning mediums that include sculpture, drawing, photography and painting, Harrison\u2019s nimble, layered method has always escaped easy categorization.<\/p>\n

Published in conjunction with her solo exhibition at the Astrup Fearnley Museet in Oslo (September 2022 – February 2023), this volume\u2014which takes its name from a seminal work of sound art by Alvin Lucier\u2014documents the show\u2019s distinctive format, with each gallery conceived as a specific room. From Sculpture Court to Town Square, Gym, Living Room and Cabinet.<\/p>\n

About the artist:<\/strong>
\nRachel Harrison (born 1966) lives and works in New York. Since the early 1990s, Brooklyn-based artist Rachel Harrison has developed a visual language at once citational and abstract, built up of three-dimensional shapes that tempt recognition but exist, in the artist\u2019s words, as \u201cforms that can\u2019t be described.\u201d Across sculpture, photography, video, and drawing, Harrison deploys strategies resonant with, yet independent of, art movements including Neo-Dada, Pop, Minimalism, and Conceptual Art.<\/p>\n
