The exhibition delved deeply into the artist\u2019s practice from 2006, included a number of new paintings and sculptures. Nicole Eisenman\u2019s characteristic works offer a colourful and celebratory first impression. On closer inspection they reveal multiple layers of meaning and intricate narratives. Many of these stories are based on characters from her own life. The artist also draws attention to larger societal issues and political frictions. With humour, she touches on issues such as identity, sexuality, and politics. Eisenman\u2019s unique eye for the complexities of contemporary society and conflicting human emotions, engenders sharp and striking observations of our modern realities.<\/p>\n<p>Astrup Fearnley Museet published this exhibition catalogue in 2021 with texts by curator Solveig \u00d8vsteb\u00f8 and writers Rahel Aima and Diana Tourj\u00e9e. This richly illustrated publication includes both installation views from the exhibition and detailed imagery of Eisenman\u2019s intricate and multifaceted works.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the artist<\/strong>:<br \/>\nNicole Eisenman (born 1965) lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. She is a key figure in contemporary American painting and sculpture, with characteristic works that shift between abstraction and the figurative depiction of social groups. Her works have featured in exhibitions at institutions such as MoMA, SFMOMA, New Museum, Carnegie Museum of Art, Kunsthalle Z\u00fcrich and Ludwig Museum in Cologne. In 2019, she participated in both the Venice Biennale and the Whitney Biennal.
