Interior doorways and windows often frame views onto an exterior landscape; and classical perspectival techniques are employed to create the illusion of depth. Simultaneously, other artistic lineages are visible. The surfaces of several paintings in Between Construction and Collapse<\/em> are noticeably built up, hinting at a modernist impulse. His attentiveness to space also extended beyond the canvas to include the work\u2019s frame and even the configuration of an exhibition. Rickhard was closely involved in the display of his work within museums and galleries during his lifetime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Between Construction and Collapse<\/em>, each gallery is conceived according to several motifs. Some of these motifs, such as the model-plane constructor<\/em> and spatial construction<\/em>, address the spatial aspect of Rickhard\u2019s practice directly. Other motifs gently allude to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal Thorsen<\/strong> completed his architecture studies in Graz, Austria in 1985 and co-founded Sn\u00f8hetta in Oslo, Norway, in 1989. Today, Sn\u00f8hetta is a transdisciplinary architecture and design practice with nine studios globally.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has been instrumental in defining Sn\u00f8hetta’s philosophy and in major projects such as the new Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, Le Monde Group Headquarters in Paris, Europe’s first underwater restaurant Under, and the world’s northernmost energy-positive building, Powerhouse Bratt\u00f8rkaia.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his work, Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal Thorsen has been awarded the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture \u2013 Mies van der Rohe Award, the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, among others.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kjetil Tr\u00e6dal Thorsen is a frequent lecturer, and from 2004 to 2008, he was a Professor of Architecture at the Institute of Experimental Architecture at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. In addition, he often acts as a jury member for international design and architecture competitions and awards, such as the Obel Award and Zumtobel Group Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
