Leonard Rickhard, born in 1945, has gradually gained a very special place in Norwegian contemporary art. His paintings are characterized by balanced compositions and harmonized colours in a subdued light. His subjects are landscapes that may seem to be idyllic and interiors that may seem peaceful in their simplicity and quietude. There is, however, a lurking tension in the pervasive stillness, a feeling that something dramatic has just happened or is about to happen. Rickhard’s pictures are like beautiful, tranquil and emotionally charged sounding boards.
