Bingen Bok x Astrup Fearnley Museet
18 Mar, 17:00 — 18:30
In connection with the exhibition Grammars of Light, we invite you to a tour and reading circle in collaboration with the book club Bingen Bok.
After a guided tour in Grammars of Light, Bingen Bok will hold a reading circle about Ursula K. Le Guin’s science fiction classic The Left Hand of Darkness (Mørkets venstre hånd, translated into Norwegian by Simen Hagerup). The reading circle will take as its starting point P. Staff’s work Hormonal Fog.
Under the heading Gender Understanding in The Left Hand of Darkness and the work Hormonal Fog, the reading circle will discuss the gender understanding, practice and theory in the book, and see this in conjunction with the exhibition, as well as specifically Staff’s art installation.
Questions that will be discussed are how Le Guin presents gender, what she wants to tell or challenge in us and in the society we know and live in? How do we think the use of science fiction and multidisciplinary art in the representation of gender can contribute to our own understandings, of ourselves and of society?
Participation costs NOK 80 (free for members of Astrup Fearnley Museet).
The circles will take place in the exhibition rooms after closing time. Both English and Norwegian versions of the book can be purchased via Bingen Bok. There is no requirement to purchase the book to participate.
