What is a readymade? | Guided Tour
22 Oct, 17:30 — 18:30
When artworks are objects that already exist in the world – where do we find artistic value? From Duchamp to Warhol, readymades have sparked frustration and shaped art history.
Lutz Bacher worked with readymades and chance encounters, and she had a sharp, often ironic eye on American culture. At first glance, you may see only a bingo board, a pile of stress balls, or some slightly blurry photographs of a road, but look again, and you may notice something entirely different. Clichés shape the way we see the world. Bacher’s simple, precise gestures challenge these clichés, and when they collapse other possibilities emerge. A room full of stress balls, for example, can feel like a place where time pauses.
Join our Head of education Marie Vallestad for a guided tour of the exhibition Lutz Bacher: Burning the Days, exploring Bacher’s use of readymades and discovering the unexpected in everyday objects.
