The writing workshops are part of a series of events in which ekphrasis is used as a method for approaching works in the Astrup Fearnley Collection. This time, in collaboration with the poetry workshop Soul Sunday and Forandringshuset Grønland, we turn our attention to the triptych Apparizione by German artist Sigmar Polke. 

Sigmar Polke (1941–2010) was a German artist who worked across painting, photography, film, and printmaking. Known for his experimentation with materials and techniques, Polke often combined humor and irony with references to popular culture, politics, and art history. Apparizione 1–3 is a so-called “unpainted painting,” created by pouring chemical substances directly onto the canvases. As the liquids reacted with the air and with one another, they produced the colors and forms we see today.  

Soul Sunday is a poetry workshop that creates a safe space for young people and young adults to explore poetry and themselves. Poetry is used as a tool to allow them to be creative and speak about social issues that are important to them. It is also a bridge-building project between people with minority backgrounds and Norwegians, where they can meet and build a community regardless of background. Soul Sunday takes place on the last Sunday of each month, and on the 27th of September they visit Astrup Fearnley Museet.
